     Review Excerpt:

"Seriously, go to active culture... Even in the winter.

The people that own it are awesome and the yogurt can't be beat.  They update their flavors (and their website) weekly.  The combo flavors are the best, and the toppings are top notch.  The guy(s) even went out and hand picked huckleberries.  Sh-yeah.  Huckleberries...."

  • -Hottest cool treat? It isnt ice cream

    July 24th 2008

    Article excerpt:

"..Fox says, they too have discovered a real following for the plain tart yogurt; it’s the only type with a permanent tap.

They’re hoping to get involved with local charities and schools by hosting benefit events and weekends. Fox and Luco got their yogurt starts by operating a booth at several fairs including the Portland Rose Festival. But now they’re happy to have a shop of their own, out of the rain."

    Daria loves ActiveCulture!!!!

Daria's thoughts on ActiveCulture Frozen Yogurt:

    "IT'S SO GOOD.

I ate a pint of the original tart last night while watching Heroes. I had frozen yogurt like that when I was 12 at my friend Gwen's house in Aurora Colorado and I've been looking for it ever since. "

(Were big fans of Heroes too... and our plain tart!!! thx for sharing your experience-ActiveCulture)

  • From the office of Multnomah County Comissioner Jeff Cogen:

Chief of Staff, Marissa Mardigal recounts her experience at ActiveCulture:

"This is frozen yogurt that is unafraid to be yogurt. It's tart. It's sweet. It's non-fat and swimming with active probiotic cultures. It has to be tried to be believed. The only thing wrong with the place is that it's not in Jeff's District! This time, I got the plain tart/black cherry swirl with gummi bears (Yeah, gummi bears!). I also tried their seasonal Pumpkin Spice and WOW, it was a wee bit o' heaven."

  • Neighborhood Culture: Local Yogurt Shops Growing Like, Um, Bacteria

Article Excerpt from Oct 23 2008

Active Culture is a really great neighborhood spot. Unlike the other yogurt shops in town, Active Culture is really spacious and offers a warehouse-y type of feel: high ceilings, polished concrete floors, exposed ductwork. The decor is playfully retro—orange and chrome vinyl chairs, wooden tables, large orange bubble lamps—which makes it a really fun place to visit. The yogurt is supplied... but Active Culture customizes the yogurt into its own signature flavors. In fact, they have about 40 flavors that rotate on and off the menu: pumpkin, butter pecan and peanut butter are a few good examples. All of the yogurt is non-fat, with the exception of Peanut Butter (did you really think it would be?) and it is rich, creamy and delicious. Active Culture has the largest selection of toppings in town.
Pros: Customized yogurt flavors, great selection of toppings, friendly service, spacious, free parking, Cons: the selection of yummy toppings makes it really hard to choose something healthy, Bonus: local art, good for groups, located in Grand Central Bowl Building, pints to go, frequent buyer card
